Commemorative "Collector's Special First Day Only" Cancellation issued by the U.S. Postal Service

Reopening of Lincoln's Home, Springfield, IL, June 16, 1988

All of the commemorative envelopes feature a special artistic cachet by the late international Lincoln artist, Lloyd Ostendorf.

All of the cancellations used by the U.S. Post Office, except the Lindbergh cancellation, were created by the late Lincoln artist Lloyd Ostendorf.

Collector's envelope commemorating the reopening of Lincoln's Home on June 16, 1988 with a "First Day" cancellation.

4 1/8" x 9 1/2" First Day postmark depicts Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln returning home from church with Willie and Ted on December 2, 1860. The artistic cachet on the envelope is the ink and wash version of the special cancellation, which was a line drawing. The original ink and wash is in this collection.
