Lincoln's
buggy ride to Mt. Carmel, Illinois in 1840
On September
2, 1840, the day following the political rally at Carmel, Illinois,
Edwin Webb drove Abraham Lincoln to Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Webb's
7 year old daughter, Patty, accompanied them in the one-seated buggy.
Patty sat on Lincoln's lap for the 40-mile trip and conversed with
him the entire distance. She was to attend the Mt. Carmel Academy
that fall. - There were a 1,000 books published.
