Commemorative "Collector's Special First Day Only" Cancellation issued by the U.S. Postal Service

All of the commemorative envelopes feature a special artistic cachet by the late international Lincoln artist, Lloyd Ostendorf.

All of the cancellations used by the U.S. Post Office, except the Lindbergh cancellation, were created by the late Lincoln artist Lloyd Ostendorf.

Grant's March to Fame. A rare triple series cancellation, June 10, 11, 12, 1977

The special cancellation was issued to commemorate the dedication of the historic march of Colonel Ulysses S. Grant and his 21st Illinois regiment's march from Camp Yates, Springfield, IL through Jacksonville, IL to Naples, IL, where they boarded a train to travel to join the fight for the Union.

Phil Wagner was authorized by the U.S. Postal Service to hand cancel on a Yankee Peddlers Wagon on the re-enactment of Grant's March to Fame. Each envelope has a special cachet and a historic insert developed by Dr. Wayne Temple, international Lincoln and Civil War historian.
