Subject: Representative Lincoln gives a toast

Description: Representative Abraham Lincoln and friends drink a toast for the successful effort of the Long Nine legislators for moving the State Capitol from Vandalia to Springfield. The celebration was at Colonel G. W. Spottswood's rural hotel on July 15, 1837. Elijah Iles, Edward D. Baker, Orville H. Browning, Stephen A. Douglass, Jesse B. Thomas and Stephen T. Logan are in this ink and wash. Colonel Matthew Rogers was also listed in this ink and wash, but he was not there.

Ostendorf corrected the picture to include Representative Robert L. Wilson. Also, Arch G. Herndon was there. Ostendorf added a beard on the Colonel Matthew Rogers image, and created Robert L. Wilson.
