Subject: Lincoln leaves for Washington, D.C. from Springfield, Illinois

Description: President-elect Abraham Lincoln bids farewell to hometown friends and neighbors gathered near the rear of his special train at Springfield's Great Western Depot en route to Washington, D.C. February 11, 1861. An Army escort is shown on the rear platform. The day was overcast with rain so the umbrellas are up. Mary Todd Lincoln is in the crowd looking up at her husband.
