Lincoln's New Salem
Featuring The Wool
& Carding Mill
Abraham
Lincolns young adult years were spent in New
Salem, Illinois, a village of log buildings where he served
as postmaster and the owner of two stores. To many, the most memorable
building in the reconstructed village is the wool house, where
yoked animals walked on a large wheel to power the carding mill.
A drawing of the mill by Illinois artist Karen Williams has been
adapted for the design of this 24-karat gold-plated ornament,
and a signed and numbered certificate with a brief history of
New
Salem accompanies each ornament.
